No Strings Attached Phenomenon

Everyone's going crazy about this "No Strings Attached" ideology. No strings attached meaning that a guy and a girl who are friends decide to have sex without the commitment element of a relationship. Just Sex. On the surface No strings attached seems like the perfect arrangement, I mean who wouldn't want to have the sex without the confusion and complicated mess of a relationship which in most cases inevitably ends in heartbreak or hate. Many speculate we are content with this because our generation does not have the same expectations that other generations before us had, in other words we have no standards...I shutter to think that maybe our generation is doomed(at the risk of sounding like a pessimist).

I think NSA relationships are beneficial in certain instances. Speaking from experience, having one of these relationships with someone you love is no fun, because in the back of your mind you always want or believe things will flourish into more than what it really is. Nevertheless when theres really no sort of attraction or hope between the two individuals and their sole purpose is Sex it becomes the most liberating situation, especially for the female. The first episode of Sex and the City was when Carrie tries to have sex with one of her ex's without any type of emotional connection involved. After the deed was done she felt so liberated. NSA relationships for a female can mean role reversal in a sense because it seems now the female has the power, not only in the bedroom but over her emotions and every guy dreams of this. Guys love the idea of a girl being their friend and being extremely hot, but the plot thickens when this beautiful friend is willing to take it to the next step without any expectations of a romantic relationship. Sex in the City once again takes a dab at this Friends with benefits attitude between Carrie and Big on several occasions, most memorably when they get caught in bed by Big's wife Natasha and she fell down stairs trying to chase after a fleeing Carrie. Friends with benefits is a win/win but eventually someone will start to catch feelings which is why I believe its an arrangement that is not long-term. It's not human to feel no emotions, we all feel and catch feelings its a part of life. No Strings Attached relationships are a temporary fix, but if you're a hopeless romantic like myself, I wouldn't even consider such an arrangement; as empowering as it may seem most people inevitably cannot handle it.
