Why are these Women in Jail

I read a really heart wrenching article in Marie Claire February 2011 issue entitled "These Women Should not be in Jail" The article is about women in Afghanistan who are in prison with their children accused of Moral Crimes such as leaving an abusive husband, being accused of having an affair even when they didn't, refusing to marry a convicted rapist or even murder-by-proxy. Murder-by-Proxy is when a male family member kills someone and assigns the prison sentence to a female. I shutter to think that there are still people in this world living in such unjustified and cruel conditions. Some middle eastern countries such as Afghanistan deny women all rights. They are dehumanized by the patriarchal society  in which they live in. I wish there was something we can do for these women serving 10 plus years in prison for crimes they did not commit. What about the children? These children have to grow up in these horrific conditions with barely enough food or milk for them, according to the article...theres so many things that we concern our selves with that is so irrelevant to what people are really going through within the United States and around the world. I wish I had a magic wand to cure all the heinous crimes and behavior happening all around us. The following is the article:
Why Are These Women in Jail?
We Can all help if we buy a Not Guilty shirt for $25 at www,marieclaire.com/shirt
The Afghan Women's Justice project will send the proceeds to the non-profits helping Afghan women in Prison. One shirt purchase buys a child's milk for a month or school supplies for 10 prisoners
